Having made the ride back from Vargenberg after the strange wolf attack, the dwarven ambassador entreats those of you willing to accompany him on an excursion to survey the mountains and nearby quarry, to evaluate any prospectable veins or caverns.
Meanwhile, in Stargfelsen proper, there is much talk of the annual winter tournament, held each year in one of Saderia's main baronies, with each competing against each other but also the crown. This year's tourney was to be held in Stargfelsen, ironically, and there is much gossip about how the Baron has chosen to continue the tradition, though an invitation has not been extended to the Kaiser...

Once having returned to Stargfelsen with the refugees of Setzelbach, Kitara pens a request to the Baron of Stargfelsen.
"Baron,
After freeing the village of Setzelbach from the clutches of a cult, it has become apparent that my daughter either lies dead at their hands as my son, or has been carried off. On the chance that she still lives, I'd make a request of you. In your keeping is a man who was once called Ludwig von Kreigstein who not only was once an accomplished warrior but also the girl's father. I would ask you release him on condition that he takes up the quest to seek our daughter, and see him outfitted to do so from your armories (I am willing to work with your smiths to help pay for such cost). I cannot follow every possible path alone, but with his aid it may be possible that we can work together to save our daughter from a fate that our parting ways had ultimately sealed for her brother.
Squire Kitara Lovich"
During the journey those with Kitara would have readily noticed her waking with screams in the middle of the night, displaying a listlessness to anything outside her duties, seeming to be in quiet arguments with herself, and drinking slightly more than even her usual heavy intake.

On the way back, Allie would keep to the word she made earlier, and assuming the father allows she will fill Lena in on Emerald Isles cuisine and the basics of first aid, such as the handling of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and burns.
"The main thing is," the Islander woman would say, motioning towards the claw-marks marring the side of her face, now healing, "the body can take care of itself. All we're doing is helping. It's like farming, or growing any plant. You give it water, soil, and sunlight, and let the plant take care of itself, and next thing you know, you have carrots and potatoes for soup. Same thing with our bodies. Anyway, when it comes to wounds, what's important is keeping the area nice and clean. Makes it heal faster, and it doesn't fester as much. Who knows why it's the case, and I can't answer you, since I'm no doctor. Sarah over there would be of better help."
Whether the tutoring sessions happened or not, she'd carry on with the exodus seemingly relatively unperturbed by recent events (and the effects they had on the people around them). When a fire's made and she's (reluctantly) on watch, she could be seen making what seems to be tea. When asked what's in it, she'd just make a half-shrug with her left shoulder and say it's "this and that" and a relaxant, and offer a cup.

Following the meeting with the Baron, Grayson would begin devoting the majority of his time towards preparing for the upcoming tourney, departing the inn far earlier than his usual times of rising and disappearing for the majority of each day.
He would spend as much of his time as the guard's schedule would allow at the keep, doing his utmost to absorb Klaus knowledge of jousting, as well as that of any other guard that might like to join in.
In light of Ser Friederich's absence, he would inquire if Ser Nasib had any wisdom to impart upon the matter. Recalling the encounter in the woods on the way to Setzelbach, in which Ser Nasib's well trained steed departed the scene and returned once more at naught but a whistle, he would also ask the elven night if he had any advice to better train and prepare his own steed Percival, both for the upcoming event and for the world beyond in general.
He would also attempt to spend some evenings drinking with the off-duty guardsmen, making carefully guided inquiries as to any stories they may have of past tournaments they have attended... as well as any prominent champions of the other baronies that might be attending this one.

One otherwise uneventful evening, Grayson would finally show before Kitara's mother's door, and seek out both Ser Nasib and Kitara herself, asking for both their time and for his turn to speak to Kitara's mother. He would be dressed not in armor, but comfortable casual wear, and he would ask that Kitara find herself a dress the likes of which she may picture herself wearing had she never departed Setzelbach and her family to begin with, and for the senior knight to attire himself however he is most comfortable.
Once all were within the room, he would see that the elderly Lovich were seated in a comfortable chair near the hearth, and both light it and open the rooms window that the night breeze and moonlight both shine in. He would seat himself nearby, and begin speaking, not to Mrs. Lovich herself, but simply filling the room with conversation. He would start when he had first met Kitara, and speak of all the adventures they had had together since, skipping the oft-bloody events that usually filled their excursions and instead turning the tales to highlight all of Kitara's most heroic moments. He would speak of her self-less desire to master her chosen craft of blacksmithing, and of the exquisite and beautiful pieces of arms and armor she had made, describing them not as implements of warfare but more as pieces of art of a master craftwomans trade. He would highlight Kitara's many virtures, such as her stubborn determination, and how she always stands by her friends and the family that the Order has become to both of them.
He would pour mugs of a sweet Saderian mead for the others, giving them room to join in, as it is made clear that he is not trying to directly reach the elder Lovich, but to use the familial attachments of those in the Order to simulate what might have been a familial environment in the Lovich family before the Setzelbach massacre had began, a peaceful evening sitting around the fire sharing stories of the day and days past, and hoping that somewhere inside Mrs. Lovich would grasp how exceptional her still living daughter had become.
Whenever he has a moment to take Kitara aside privately, he would apologize for how flippant he had been prior. He would assure her that should she find any information as to where her daughter currently is, he will be the first to drop the tasks at hand to ride at her side, and he would let her know that while he knows not how it feels to have or lose a child, he does share the pain of losing a sibling, and that if she wished to share any tales and memories of her family in better times, that he would be there to listen, that night or any other.

Nasib lets Grayson and whoever else in and nods with approval at his methods, adding his own insights into Kitara's character, though there is some pause before he says his piece:
"Squire Lovich values the Faith above all else, and despite having ample opportunity otherwise, has pursued the tenets of the Templar Order at the expense of other, more lucrative pursuits. I have no doubt that she will doggedly pursue her Trials, having succeeded in her first already. I pray that she will accomplish her next Trial of finding her daughter, God willing."

James, for his part, will spend some his time in the prison talking with Barry. Starting with a commendable dialog of derived schematics of the man's technologies, their innovations and room for improvement, the mechanist will attempt to engage the man as a peer - trying to draw him into technical conversation on sustainable designs for the relatively ill-equipped locale.
Accompanying the compliments to the man's thrifty methods and ingenuity will be careful and moderated admonishments for the manner in which the entire situation was conducted, offering the delicate critique and guidance of a professor used to dealing with troublesome students bearing hand-grenades in his office. The main topic, however, will continue to be on the designs, their origins (and by extention the youth's acquisition and background), and how they can be improved or implemented and maintained with local equipment.
Presuming that the conversation goes well, or at the least seems to make some progress, James will attempt to coordinate with the Baron to introduce and oversee a couple projects between the prisoner and the local blacksmith; ever mindful to present the idea as a means of keeping the convict productive for the Barony, rather than a dead-weight.

The more James discusses scientific topics with the young teenager, the more it becomes evident that the boy does not, in fact, understand how most of the gadgetry operates. He seems content to simply use it due to it possessing a unique and visually spectacular function. He seems much more preoccupied with tales from books he has read, undoubtedly fiction, which generally seem to focus on magic and fantastical creatures and high adventure. The boy does, however, seem to possess some knack for understanding how to fix and maintain some of the devices, though he uses extremely unorthodox methods that would not pass safety code inspections in the slightest. After some sleuthing, James determines that the boy obtained most of his paraphrenalia via theft, and in some cases hadn't yet devised what the device itself was actually for. The Baron, for his part, seems entirely preoccupied with matters of the Tourney, and when approached about the boy's status, he simply redirects with a pointed question of when he can expect his Champions list.

One moment when all are gathered in the common room of the inn, Grayson would present the vaunted tournament list, and inquire exactly as to whom was signing up for what, that it may be presented to the Baron post-haste.
His name would penned neatly behind the jousting category.

While trying to enjoy a drink and ignore the rest of the world, Carter is knocked out of his head space by the Grayson with his sign up sheet. The Chester merely grumbles, then speaks up: " I be far too busy try on' t' catch a killer t' go play in th' Barron's wee games. But, if we be need in' folks in positions, Doc or Allison'd be your best choices for marksmen or drinkers. And Sarah''s our best bet when it comes t' boxin'." The man then gets up from his seat, heading upstairs. "I've a long day t'morrow, as have th' lot o' ye's. Wish ye's a good night. If ye's need me, I'll be workin' on reports for th' next hour." He the heads for his room, locking up and setting to writing.

Allison stares at the sign up sheet as she passes by, sipping her pilsner with a certain distaste in the light-flavored beverage.
"I do not want to do this." she mutters, watching Carter go up the stairs. She then looks at the sheet again, figuring she doesn't actually have a choice on this. Muttering some obscenities, she grabs a quill, furiously writing her signature on the 'Archery' line, "Fine, I'll shoot. I've had enough hangovers in this country to last me a lifetime."
