The vendors have dropped their max amount they pay for items from 20 bucks to 12 bucks. I don't remember reading this in any of the patch notes, so could someone explain why the decision to drop their buying prices has been implemented? Simply to put cash more into perspective? Or is this just part of the fluid economy and they change their max buying prices automatically?

I really disagree with this change. All it does is force more grinding..

I'd like to see a lower base buy (like the 100-120 range) with a higher cap (200-250) that can be achieved via Merchantalism; so there's a realized benefit to the skill before you get to the point where you can take the abilities to increase the buy-value.

I actually think the base buy at 200 was acceptable, if not too low given crafting prices. Right now the server still requires too much grinding for my tastes to do anything. Crafting, leveling..

Mercantalism does allow you to increase the max amount merchants will pay you for things. However, you can only unlock those abilities at about level 40+ mercantalism. As it stands, 20 bucks an item was bad enough in regards to crafting and getting decent custom gear (which is still cheaper than buying from merchants), but bearable.

Oh boy... I already had trouble getting cash with 20 bucks per a normal item (leather armor seems to be 3-12), now I won't even be getting that? *Goes to rob unsuspecting travelers in the dark night* (Society made me do it!)

Going with groups through the cemetary still isn't really terrible when you think about it (Especially for lower level characters).
I'm on the fence about this change honestly, I think it's too soon to tell what the economy is going to look like for it. (The change just happened this morning, and I still average 200-300 bucks doing the cemetery, which isn't as amazing as the 4-600 I was getting before, but it's still good.)

I really disagree with this change. All it does is force more grinding.. I completely agree with this sentiment. I'm already someone who dislikes competing over areas or waiting outside an area for my "turn" at it. Limited areas + more crafters + low merchant cap = frustrated players. A PC created after these changes will be at a disadvantage when compared to a PC who has had the opportunity to amass greater wealth. And, since the cap keeps getting adjusted, more grinding will likely happen as players try to amass more wealth "just in case" the market crashes again the merchant buy-back cap is lowered again.

As a note, apparently the cap at Bobs Guns has dropped again, from $50.0 to $35.0, and now to $15.0. [Edit:] since the cap keeps getting adjusted, more grinding will likely happen as players try to amass more wealth "just in case" the market crashes again the merchant buy-back cap is lowered again. It's like a bank run: but instead of a financial institution, all the money is stored up in murder.

The merchants need to buy items for more money. Capping it at 12 dollars means I have to run the graveyard 2 times just to make one suit of chainmail that will give me half a level at best in armoring.

Yep. Either raise the prices, or the DMs have to be on 24/7 running events that give good payouts

This one isn't working as intended. To much money in level 1 items and not enough in better ones. The original plan was to give higher level stores worse prices but higher max buy. Great plan when you have the resources to make stores at every level but not when you don't and every item is breaking max buy.
Expect worse merchant buy prices overall and a single higher max buy per character that depends on mercantilism in addition to abilities. Aiming to have max buy hit for items of level 15-25.

Ultimately okay with this because it makes money more valuable and crafters a more desirable means of obtaining gear. Maybe crafters will start charging a little on top of their craft rather than working for base costs =)

Well, being able to gather ingredients will make crafting a lot more feasible, as well.
