Per title.
When looted, the corpses go from interact-able to not, and do not contain any Polar Bear Hide items to be collected with a skinning knife.
I know the skulls are a random drop, but I do not recall if the hides are: and out of three, I would have hoped at least one dropped it's pelt for the work put in.
