Detect has been a problematic skill for a long time now. A lot of players have trouble keeping it up to the level of their other skills. And I believe I know why, and how to fix it.
Why : Detect falls behind because it is a skill that you don't get xp from unless it is exactly on level. For almost all other skills, if the skill falls behind a bit, you can still train it in on-level dungeons. If your armor skill is too low, you can get hit by higher level monsters and it will still progress. If you Blacksmithing falls behind, you can decon items from higher level dungeons and it will still progress. If your Demolition falls behind, you will still get xp from throwing grenades at the higher level monsters. But if Detect fall even a little behind, suddenly you will be getting little to no detect xp from your dungeons. The further you fall behind, the more you don't get xp, resulting in a snowball effect.
Solution : Make Detect give partial XP for -trying- to detect a node, not just for succeeding. Maybe every round you spend in detect mode near a hidden node, you get 10% of that node's XP, up to 50%. If you actually detect the node, you get the rest of the XP.
