A weakness of this system, I think at least, is that for a week or two, if not more, of play, characters largely feel the 'same'. We're all playing the same statistical bases with different coats of paint/gear choice. It's a remarkably alt-unfriendly system. I know I have zero desire to play more than one character, which sucks because there's a lot of the system worth exploring. As a post-beta consideration, letting us choose X amount of skills to start at about 30 or 40 might help alleviate this issue? With a few more ability points to invest as well. There's still TONS of room for upward growth in your main abilities from there, but it would leave PCs starting out with a real, diverse set of talents to bring to a situation, instead of weeks of everyone kind of being a jack of all trades like we have going on now.

Does anyone happen to be aware of any cap on the skills one can gain, or how the slowdown of gain of XP/Abilities/Skills functions? I recall something vaguely mentioned in the tutorial at some point about 7 skills past 10, but that's somewhat vague and doesn't answer the other questions. Nor can I find the details of that in the journal or on the forum.

Bump. I want to have another character. Or two. Or three. But.. Mechanically it's not fun. We'll implement a way to skip the prologue for those who have characters that have done so already. But it hasn't even been a week since we've gone into beta.

Skill gain is not capped. XP gain per skill increase slows down at a gradual rate for each skill advancement.. Some amount or so that you get in each 10 increment tier. So when you get X many advancements in 0-10 further ones make you get less. But when you start advancing 11-20 those skills give 100 each until you again pass another threshold of skill advances.

I would like to reiterate this idea if there is a vault wipe. Giving people a few levels on startup and a few skills on startup would be a good thing.

As far as I'm aware, if there's a vault wipe, character XP will be preserved, you'll just have to level up pick your abilities again. engines.freeforums.net/thread/41/engines-ascension-launch-date-2015Down by "Beta" not sure of the bonus pool just means you'll earn double XP till you're back at where you were, or if it will be like assigned XP.
