Alright, so after talking with some game friends. I decided to make this. First of all.
Pets have come along way since I started playing. They've went from literally being 1 round or so of not being attacked to now doing damage and contributing. There has been a lot of good work done with Animal Training. I'm very proud of it, it's fun to rp and I like how it combines with other skills. I know a lot of people do not like Animal training, a few of the issues with it is. They are inconvenient. They are hard to control, they bump and knock people out of position and generally get in the way. In dungeons with the people I tent to play with, this is highly obnoxious for them. An example is kitara when she is lining up for her skills, and pet runs in to knock her out of combat range, or our healer when he is trying to do his thing.
Lately pets have been buffed, I hesitate to push for more buffs on them given now a Rottweiler can do decently against armored unites its own skill. I don't necessarily thing now they need buffs on their physical skills, but rather their commands now and how they benefit the team.
My opinion and perception is however bias, I play a tank. I lose a lot of stamina as it is. AT is a HEAVY investment if you want a decent pet, I'm about to be 9? 10 abilities in. On top of the HUGE ability cost it has, the pets eat up a shit load of stamina too so it makes them really hard to combine with certain skill groups.
Right now I think that pets are a 6-7 out of 10. What I believe would improve them are the following:
1: No closeness
2: Rework on their commands. Command defense could work like Immovable, gives armor, on top of mini armor so a pet with it can actually tank. More over, make it last longer. The four rounds means it's a lot less useful than any other skill I've seen thus far. I've only ever really used it to heal my pet in OH shit situations. I don't even use Command Attack.
3: Animal Empathy Tamed pets are not that much better than the Kennel ones, and cost 1+ more feats for them. Actually using the Rottweiler because he has 3? 4 more dodge and more dmg? It makes him out right better.
4: a new death system. Maybe them coming back latter on or something. They are so easy to die as it is. Once they drop, which is really easy, that's, for me 7-9 less points use-able.
Anyway, those are the most important things thus far. Thanks.
