A lot of people seem to be having trouble with excessive load times during initial login to the server, especially during the 'Out-of-Date Content' check. Upon comparing performance between those of us who live both near or far to the server, with a variety of hardware and connection quality, the defining factor seems to be storage drive read speed. Those using SSDs are experiencing very minimal load times, whilst others are suffering minutes' worth.
So, just a couple of things that might help:
1) Free up some storage space. Drives that are above approximately 80% capacity suffer reduced performance, the details of which I won't go into here. This applies to both HDDs and SSDs, incidentally.
2) Defragment your hard drive! This only applies to mechanical drives, not solid-state drives. This allows the files for the server to be in one contiguous chunk, rather than scattered over the drive. This is especially problematic with large files being checked against a hash, as is occurring here.
-----
This is a working theory at the moment, I'd appreciate it if people who try these steps could let me know if they help at all, or have any other suggestions on the matter. I understand it can be frustrating to sit waiting for load times, especially when something was trying to eat your face in the dungeon if/when you crashed.

Not to dismiss the advice, but while these are generally useful tips, I don't think it will matter in this case. I didn't have the problem initially, and my drives are in good condition. It must be something else. Hope it works for some, but personally I doubt it will.

Yeah going to say again that the load times are fine with 2-5 people on the server. Not fine with 20. It is directly proportionate with the load of the server.

I throw my worthless two cent in here as well, and simply say "What takenbythestormx said."
