Someone said in another thread that the rate of skill xp is proportional to the item level. Wielding a higher level sword than your current skill increases the xp gain, while a lower one reduces it.
How does this work for Unarmed? It feels like it is progressing extremely slow compared to other skills.

Unarmed is always treated as if you've got a weapon equal to your current unarmed skill level.

Hmm, okay. Is the xp gain based on damage dealt, or just number of hits? Hitting a monster that reduces the damage to 0 seem to have very little effect on gaining skill xp, regardless of hitting frequently.

Unarmed XP still seem to be coming very slowly.
With the recent update to fix solo xp, I had a fight with 12 rats, and one Cave Spider total, in the sewers leading to the spider lair. Not once did I gain any Unarmed XP. I switch to Two-handed against the spider to avoid dying (DR absorbs most of Unarmed damage) when it is at about half life. When it dies, I've gained 2 increases on the Two-handed XP bar towards the next level, but throughout it all I didn't gain any Unarmed XP at all.
Unarmed skill is 9. Two-handed skill is 8, with the weapon at level 17.
Based on this brief experience, I can only assume that Weapon Skill XP is awarded accordingly to either how much damage you do per hit before DR, which would make sense given that a higher item level weapon nets you faster xp due to it dealing more damage; or only the damage dealt after DR is counted towards Weapon Skill XP.
Regardless, Unarmed sorely needs a buff. Not just the measly +1 damage buff from a set of gloves, which is pittyful considering the current DR, but preferably a huge increase in Skill XP per hit.
I am aware that Unarmed is supposed to be inferior to guns and actual weapons, but it still needs to be viable, which it currently isn't. Also, I assume Unarmed is important for bouncer/bodyguard type characters.

Unarmed isn't actually worse, necessarily... this is steampunk, and giant piston fists or huge metal gauntlets that electrocute people are totally a thing. The problem is these are all on the higher end of the tech level vs regular fists with gloves, whereas weapons would have a more gradual increase in power level with tech. I agree they need some tweaking, unarmed was actually the last addition (after I convinced OR how awesome it could be) so it's had the least ironing, plus NWN' s whole glove system is stupid.

I think the biggest issue is that for Unarmed, weapon level = skill level. That means you can't boost skill gains like you can with a sword that is above your skill level. I'm sure it gets better, but I can see a lot of people give up on it simply because it's so difficult to level compared to other skills.

How much do they add, and what is the cost?
Don't know if Rhonin would use anything but Light Armor though.

They add +1 damage, and +1 to block

I guess it's something. Just doesn't seem like a whole lot, considering that even light armor mobs eat up most of the damage per hit regardless.

Yeah, its pretty rough going right now. Also, circle kick is bugged out but I'll be posting some screenshots to my unarmed bug thread with the debug code it displayed

Circle kick has always been buggy. No server I have been on have ever gotten it to work properly from what I know.
