The small brass monstrosity remains in the corner of the ruined building, giving the children berth while tapping away at his journal with a metal ball of letters and ink. After listening quietly to the conversation around the burning pew, a short burst of static heralds the metallic interjection.
"Pardon my inturruption, but it seems to me that we have precious little visibility into the current strategic picture. Keeping your security in mind, Baron, perhaps we aught to investigate the current political climate prior to announcing your return to the country. While we have no clear proof the evidence suggests that some facet of the politica may be taking advantage of your absence to leverage the lands, and therein lies a threat to the safety and reputation of you and your Kin, Sir.
If I might offer advice, reinforcing the people's trust in your benevolence and securing their spirit and support would be a fine start to dispelling any potential dissention among the political elite that your absence and neglect to the state may have precipated such a turn of events as befell this town - and likely other similar settlements in this event that this was not a targeted raid. If we can locate and aid the survivors, we may be able to improve our understanding of the situation of the State and improve your return to the lands buoyed by both a moral victory and a superior position when considering your return and security.
However, if you see it more prudent to continue onwards and secure additional forces, I can see the merit - though warn that it may come at the cost of being seen to ignore the plights of your people. In either regard, as the appointed liason for the University of Calidor you have , of course, whatever technical and analytical aid I can provide at your disposal, whichever you deem to be the higher priority, Baron."

KItara looks to James and ponders for a few long moments before speaking up.
"I feel we would disappoint St. Leah if we were to leave these women as captive, and if the girl is right.. twelve.. should be something we are able to manage. We've weaponry with us they will not expect, and they will not expect to be attacked, this gives us a few layers of surprise to unleash upon them. I would say we ought rescue the women. It is our obligation of duty and honor to do so. If there is unrest rising in your absence, a demonstration of your determination to act in your people's interest before your own may settle the unrest and win you favor among the masses against any disloyal underlings you haven't uncovered yet."
She nods to herself, checking over her weapons and the fuel for her flames.
