So, just got Animal Training 40. Yay! New pet... but it seems a little underwhelming, numbers-wise? Comparing it to the Rottweiler, which is an animal who requires 10 fewer ranks of Animal Training (So should be weaker?), you get...
-1 Max Damage +1 Block (Though with their very low blocks for both +3/+4, neither can really block anything) +1 Armor -20 HP +5 Stamina Cost
The Armor and the damage mostly cancel each other out, so you are left with the higher-level pet having +1 block, which is mostly irrelevant, but -20 hitpoints (25% of the tarantula's hit points, at this level) and costing an extra 5 stamina to equip. Not a very good tradeoff.
Suggestions!
1 - With the new poison system being added, tarantula (And the higher level snakes) could have a poison attack? 2 - If that's not possible, just a few numbers tweeks? Maybe a +1 AB or Dodge since it's so small? 3 - Speaking of small, it feels like something this small should have more then +5 stealth.

It and the first snake were designed around eventually having poisons but the system I have right now isn't quite ready. A bit more stealth would be reasonable but I'm holding high sneak attack damage for the panther.

Makes sense, a spider that small doesn't really have the tools to exploit vitals, if/when sneak attack gets added I wouldn't expect spiders/bats/snakes and other small animals to be good at it. Moving unseen, yes. Puncturing lungs? Not really.
