I'm not really sure how to implement, but it would really help if ranged and melee mobs had different names (similar to the solution for Gnomes).
There are times when balance passes are needed to various areas, and it makes it really hard to assess post-wipe what damage sources are coming from where when the ENTIRE combat log says "Outlaw does X" when there are 8 of them and one of them has a rifle, thereby making it complicated to say which particular thing was getting a +12 AB, if it was a rank 50 flanker in melee, or a gun at point-blank with the tank whacking them.

I'll add the word "Marksman" to any ranged versions that spawn from that type of spawner.

This would be especially useful for determining which mob you have which sneak attack pool on.
