As a random thought after seeing Kit's bug report on whip weights... what if instead of looking at Endurance/Carrying etc... the weight of modifications is eyeballed and maybe toned down a bit? I mean, some of the scopes on guns weigh more than swords. The Gas-module on a helm for example, also weighs as much as a weapon. For swords adding a bladeguard adds a pound/unit of weight, which seems very reasonable for the additional rings, lugs, and perhaps swept guards that are being added. Maybe just standardize these down to 1 pound/unit per modification?
It will be a small help, but when you figure each character is going to carry 1 melee weapon, 1 ranged weapon, possibly a shield, then 4 pieces of armor.. shaving the modification weight can turn into a big help for those characters.
Before its said, yes one can use unmodified armor, but then you lose all the cool stuff Engines adds AND not every character can afford to have 3 suits of armor each outfitted differently for every occasion instead of just 1 suit with generally needed modifications aka: Carbon Steel and Kevlar, Cured Leather and Camo.

Next update I'm rolling out a new system for item mods that allows properties to have weight in tenths of pounds instead of just pounds. Along with it there will be some reductions in weight, and a bit of outright removal (materials will all be zero or a percentage) but I don't think it will be enough for people to really reconsider endurance.
