As we advance down feat tree's we find ourselves having to replace lower level abilities with the higher ones we get. And there are situations where a lower tier ability is preferable to a higher tier ability (Conserving Stamina).
Would it be possible to have lower tier abilities in a line accessible and use-able after selecting its next upgrade?

My understanding was that it was partially a deliberate trade-off: the higher level abilities are more powerful, and often specialized and costly, but a high level character is usually expected to have greater stamina investment to make that possible.
Secondly, I'm not sure that retaining the lower ranked abilities would be entirely balanced when some abilities are considered that actually change how the ability works: Being able to opt between, using the Heavy Armor ability as an example, +5 armor and +5 block selectively, or a tree that only permits +5 armor, utility is almost certainly better, to switch between offence and defense with a single tree.
