So there was a lot of talk recently about tanking, and how about not enough people are playing tanks and/or taking aggro, and this is why parties are having a hard time. This is true, and I think one of the major reasons is that out of all the many kinds of characters one can make on Engines, very few of them focus on tanking, while many, many of them don't want to take any hits at all.
Heavy Armor, defensive focused characters are really the only tanks, while marksmen, sneakers, demolition experts, medics just to name a few tend to get no aggro at all. This leads to the current situation where there is too much pressure on the few tanks because there are too many characters comparatively who don't take any pressure. A big part of this problem is because, I believe, there just aren't a lot of ways to build tanks. Which leads me to...
There was some talk on the Discord the other day about two-weapon blocking, and with some new understandings of some of the quirks of Parry Mode, I considered how a light armor, two-weapon tank could work. And possibly be an alternative to the very limited options for tanking. Then I remembered the biggest problem with it : They would get shredded by ranged enemies, since Parry mode doesn't work against it.
Which brings me to my suggestion. I think Parry Mode should offer some kind of protection against ranged attacks. Not parrying bullets of course, but maybe a certain amount of Concealement (Possibly varrying with Armor Type?) against ranged attacks as you duck and weave and use cover and generally focus on defense, making you harder to hit. It would also remove on the the reasons why ranged mobs are so much more dangerous then melee mobs. Characters have a defensive option against melee with Parry mode, that they don't have against Ranged enemies.
