While tangling with wyverns, I notice that they regenerate about a sixth to a fifth of their maximum health per round, a rate that is fast enough to outheal everything but dedicated DPS sources. Fighting them with a silver weapon and continuously attacking them (thus not putting them in "idle" mode which would justify regeneration) does nothing to stem the rate.
Reporting this as I'm not sure this is intended behaviour for the creatures, as this regenerative capability appears to be a fairly recent affair and they are tough but doable otherwise, though I can't say for sure exactly when this became a problem.

This sounds like a bug, unless there are different kinds of wyverns I don't know about. I fought both the desert oasis wyverns and the Imperial wyverns in the past few days and neither had regeneration.

Specifying which Wyverns would help, I see nothing in their heartbeat scripts that would cause this.

Wyverns on the ship and in the Oasis. Both instances were alone.
With a henchman, though, the Oasis wyverns no longer displayed regeneration.

Were they attacking you at the time of the regen or doing something else?

They were attacking me, and I was attacking it.
I’ll see if I can try to replicate the issue later today and get more precise details.

Replicated issue during boat trip, with a sea wyvern.
First phase: Sneak Attack missed. Exchanged blows for two rounds and reduced wyvern to about 80% health, no observable regeneration. Wyvern flew off.
Second phase: Sneak Attack hit. Wyvern knocked me down. Scored a Flanking Attack, noticed wyvern regenerating health while I was parrying and delivering successful counterattacks virtually every attack flurry. The fight lasted about six or so rounds before the match ended with the wyvern at full health and I was given some money for my trouble.
Suspecting wounding damage having something to do with it?

If it's what I think it is then it'll be fixed next update, otherwise more data appreciated.

Wyvern on boat trip. I was unstealthed.
First phase: Wyvern swooped in and knocked me down. Exchanged blows for about three rounds. Wyvern then used Wyvern Tail, after which I noticed its health regenerating. A couple more rounds of exchanging blows before it flew off.
Second phase: Wyvern swooped down again, exchanged more blows for about three rounds. Saw health regenerating just before it cast Wyvern Tail. One more round, and then it flew off for good.

Wyverns in the Oasis are still exhibiting abnormal regeneration in combat. I was with Lucius at the time, which debunked my theory that a henchman or companion can suppress their regeneration. Having to fight two wyverns at once made me less attentive than I should be, but from my observation they retained damage normally until a few rounds after they swooped in for the second time, where I noticed their health was higher than it should be.

Issue seems resolved with the Oasis wyverns for now. Will note here if this comes up again.

Same issue cropped up with sandworms.

Can you be more specific about what you mean by that?

Sandworms are showing the same idle regeneration features the wyverns did even when in combat. Though I don’t know if they’re supposed to regenerate to begin with.

Confirmed that scarab beetles are exhibiting this same regeneration trait. Fighting five of them ended up taking longer than expected due to their ability to occasionally regenerate about half their health pool with little in the way of consistency that I could observe. The only reason I was able to defeat them at all was due to their small HP pool to begin with and their regeneration occasionally not working in combat as intended.
EDIT: I suspect the health regeneration is tied to (defensive) shield bashing somehow. A number of times I observe a beetle's health rocketing to full from ~40% or so following a sufficiently damaging bash. This doesn't always happen, but often enough that it's either an eerie coincidence or there's some connection.
