Mentioned this to Kitsune and he suggested I should post it.
Starting at 165401 blacksmithing xp in level 78 (1 over minimum for the level) I crafted a 129,636gp longsword. The resulting xp gain placed me at 165931xp, and the xp to tick over to level 79 blacksmithing is 168700. This means for $13,000 IG dollars I gained 430xp or 13% of the level progression. If that holds true it will take another $87,000 to progress the level to 79, baring the unlikely occurrence of acquiring deconstructables to help.
I'm not sure if the cost scales identically in all other crafts, but this seems a little high? Maybe the bonus xp consumption/boost for crafting skills should go up every 20 levels? so 2x up to 40, 3x 41-60, 4x 61-80, 5x 81+?
To put it in perspective, 100k is roughly a month of grinding nightly and having Kitsune selling my items for me.

I don't think that adjusting the BXP rate is the correct solution, considering how fast we go through it anyway.
What might help is relaxing the XP falloff for under-level modifications, and tying it more directly to net money spent. As I understand it currently, the optimal situation it to press customers for the best work you can possibly do in a single step, rather than discrete chunks.

That is true and would definitely do the trick. The limitation I deal with on my end is that only one other player has any demand for the items I can make at full construction, and its really just charity when some level 40 throws down extra thousands to get Kitara's best.

This is fully intentional. Once you're at a point where your crafting ability exceeds the level of dungeons you or your customers can run then it becomes very hard to level up. This is done as a way of connecting crafting progression to other skills and dungeon difficulty. It's also there to facilitate catch up mechanics when crafting lags behind items you can acquire for deconstruction.
I'd recommend focusing on using your crafting to make money by charging above cost, and worrying about level once you start turning up level 80 gear in dungeons.
