I did a minimal settings run with this and a party of 9 (me + 8 npcs) to see how lag is across the crowder/graveyard swamp. I wanted to proc a ton of Shambling mounds and Rotters to compare to the lag of one Single Dragon.
Firstly I determined what graphics setting I could not live without:
-Horizon distance: far (Not even worth playing, with this on near setting imho)
-Anistropic low vs linear (goes well with horizon)
-show lights carried by companions
-client extention
Everything else off/minimal. Even Combat Log off
1. Swamp in general is a bit laggy, but even more so with rain. I had no rain this run and it was manageable for everything but dragon phase II breath
2. At one point I spawned about 4-5 Mounds and their throwings and it was a crazy battle with me eventually kiting to save all the NPCs...BUT it was manageable with reasonable lag.
3. Once everything was dead, the single dragon was the focus: this time I just aimed for a spot close to the nest for location:
-phase one breath was fine. I was able to control the npcs, move and shoot with minimal lag.
-As soon as phase 2 switch began, I just reloaded, targeted/hit the fire button and hoped for the best. And ..... after a few seconds of lag where I had no control at all, the Dragon corpse suddenly appeared on the ground and the lag was gone with its death. I didn't even see it get hit or die. Naturally I had the cbt log off so I couldn't see the info, but I knew from last time that info would come in huge chunks of lag anyways.
Obviously the server determined that the combined army killed the dragon quickly during that period of severe lag.
So my conclusion: this phase 2 trickle acid AoE combined with whatever is already causing swamp lag is just choking client/server/both to death.
Certainly I recommend NO ambient weather (rain) for that particular zone as a start; the swamp is really less laggy without rain, in general.
