I assume this is a bug. The Mastiffs in the Sedis Labyrinth's special howl attack where hitting every character 3 times each cast. (For 18-25 damage each, total of around 60 damage per use)
This is for one individual mastiff, not three mastiffs howling at the same time.

It's intended to tick three times with short delays between the ticks.

Oh. That's.... really powerful. Especially since sonic damage has no ways of being resisted, and the delay is so short it might as well not be there.

The effect is considered an AOE/explosion, but yes it's a really strong ability on an otherwise average to weak creature for its level.

Was with EH and fought this encounter:
Explosion Resistance of 25% resulted in taking 66 damage over about 2 seconds (3 ticks of 22 damage). Managed to activate Hold the Line 4 in time for the second Mastiff to howl the next turn, resulting in 25% damage immunity and 39% Explosion Resistance taking 51 damage over 2 seconds (3 ticks of 17 damage). Result was taking 117 damage by the second round of combat, which resulted in me dead (a partial side-effect of my low HP)
We managed to get one of the two down to Near Death before the two players, Tank hireling, and two pets were down.
[Edit]: We later discovered that there was a third at the back of the room that had not been attracted because a wall was in the way. The potential for over 150 damage to the entire party in the first two rounds of combat seems a bit strenuous to combat.
