We had a team of 5: Myself, Kitara, Allison, Em, and Carter.
Kitara and I kept the monster busy while the others shot it with crossbows.
However, since we were in the elemental aura, we were both downed and ejected from the fight as soon as it occured.
The rest of the team managed to take it down a round or two later, but only Allison survived to get kill-credit (for Tier 2)
The main bug I see here is that a team-member who participates in the entire dungeon gets kicked out as soon as they hit 0 HP, with no opportunity to stick around for a party victory as happens in other underwater areas. Dungeon ejection needs to be delayed until all active players in the area are downed.

Not a bug, there's even a custom VFX for it.

It is intended that even if the party wins, only the survivors get credit? Out of a team of 5, all of which contributed, only one player received loot and boss-credit, because they happened to be the furthest from the boss during the fight.
That seems to me like a design error, since there is no practical way that using melee against the boss is desirable except to allow others to receive the benefits. If it is intended that the party-members are ejected as they fall, then players both in the boss stage *and* the deserted island should receive credit (As well as those in transition between the two), and the boss-loot should be moved to the deserted island - perhaps using the rum cache.
I was not aware there was a VFX, as the player disappears as soon as their HP hits 0.

That is a particularly nasty melee boss (due to the underwater limits of pots and quick heals, and the alternating elemental type, etc.) If you don't time the in and out of the tanks' kite/pull tag really well, the melee will die. There's not a lot of room for the melees to do a ping-pong type pull and swap, either.
So...I gotta agree with kit here. Only the ranged that sit back and don't get involved in the aura in any way will likely survive.
