I do know that we'll have different locations besides Calidor to explore in the future, but we still need to finish Calidor and polish it up. As for the rest, I can't say for sure beyond the fact that Factions/Quests is at the top of the list after we get out of beta stage.

Would a membership in a faction be a must for said activities? I mean, It might belong in a museum, but an enterprising individual could just as well dwell into said elven tomb to loot it and sell it on the black market, or simply wish to find something shiny to give him an edge over his enemies ^^ I do understand the concept you describe, asking if it also includes freelancers, thus the use for the profession adventurer, simply being a freelance explorer/tomb raider out there not for a museum or a faction with a cause, but mainly to get paid There is nothing to stop you from doing so, it will just be you doing a dungeon and then selling the stuff you found in it. If you're talking DM attention, I'll only speak for myself but I'll tell you to probably not hedge on any actual DM assistance from me. I get it, some people hate organized anything and would rather quit playing than have to join some group and be beholden to anyone else whole they pursue their whole lone hero that answers to no one shtick, and that's fine and your prerogative, and no one will prevent you from doing that here, so knock yourself out. I will quite candidly say, however, that I will almost assuredly not be helping you out. And that's fine for some people, they don't mind playing on PWs without any DM support. Personally, I've never understood that, seems like a poor man's MMORPG, but hey, it's free, so that's something? We created the Faction system for a reason, and Abe Lincoln said the whole thing about not pleasing all of the people, all of the time, and we didn't expect everyone to love the Factions and jump right in, nor do we expect purple to play ball or get out. We have taken a very specific and calculated approach (and risk) to our setup, and on my end, most of my players (and they are MY players, because I head up those factions) can probably vouch for the fact that DM stuff has been happening regularly and they've already started building relationships with NPCs and whatnot. That is the focus, and we've made no secret about it. So yes, you can play the way you describe. You should not feel entitled to DM support for it, though, at least not from me, because I've made it pretty clear that I am going to prioritize the group play and dynamics, and I personally feel that PCs that pursue loner gameplay are just being self centered, especially when they start expecting DMs to cater to them over others. You want that kinda story, go play a single player game. This is a full contact team game.

OK so it will be considered one of the major factions. Good! I want to participate and play with folks just with stuff that makes sense for the character. He'd help Chesters/church/Coppers when needed but full blown join them I dunno.

I'll probably run a museum something soon. Need to get a few more areas in first.

What you are saying Fuzz makes sense, but Time Zones often screw me over, as the DM events are usually happening when either I am not online or preparing to go offline and can't afford another few hours of RP, however much I want to. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Anyways onto the main topic:
"Crafting is almost always cheaper than buying from vendors, so if you know a crafter..." - Crafting is definitely more expensive than buying from vendors at the moment, but maybe not for the buyer but for the crafter.
So far Crafting is not viable, as I stated before in a previous thread, Crafting at the moment is a Money Sink, not a Money Maker. From what I understand Crafting will be tweaked to a point where it actually becomes another way of life, one that doesn't require you to go adventuring if you don't want to? Instead of needed the tremendous amounts of money for creating an item, you'll sometime need special ingredients that you could buy off of said "adventurers", be it factions or whatnot. Am I correct in assuming this, or will Crafting always be a side hobby which may occasionally bag you a few bucks from players?

I do think my character will join a faction, once one that is viable for him shows up (exploration guild/priory of the people sounds like him), I think it will be easier to explain the freelancing thing with an example. The character delved into a ruin on behalf of the museum, while down there, they discovered an artifact of great value to art patrons, they decide rather than handing it over to the museum, they would rather report finding nothing, and contacting some members of the crowds for a fence to get a payday, eventhough none of them is a member of the crowds, but rather a guy who knows a guy. Another example would be, a character is a member of the priory, he is delving into ancient ruins on behalf of a museum, the party comes upon some ancient church texts, the character will then attempt to simply burn said texts. I did not imply any single PC should get solo DM attention since it's a waste of time, I am inquiring about the level of flexibility within faction interactions. What I do love about the setting is the Grimdark aspects of it, every man for himself, while joining any of the factions, the character will still be pursuing his own agenda, and in appropriate moments, act on his own best interest rather than the faction's.

The quotes in the OP aren't representative of any current build plans for the server.

You always have choice and DMs will generally never force you to do anything on this server, regardless of faction. Having said that, if you undermine or betray your faction's trust you should expect to face consequences if you get caught. Those consequences could be violent depending on the faction. Those consequences could include a risk of permadeath depending on the severity and number of offenses. Factions are what will get you in the door and give you the opportunity to partake in events and plots, but they will in no way control your RP... they might offer suggestions to inform your RP, or provide tangible restrictions that aren't completely unbreakable but might result in repercussions for your character or others, but you always have a choice. Other players might try to stop you, which is a primary source of conflict and something we as DMs actually WANT to see happen because that's free entertainment and drama building for us. At the end of the day, the story is whatever you guys make of it, as DMs we simply provide the backdrop ( setting, Factions) and a situation (the event/plot) to provide a framework for you to write that story with. So have fun.

I'm sure I'm not the only one. Yeah, unfortunately that's just a real life limitation and one that can only be remedied with more DMs and players in your time zone. Of those two things we only have control of the former, and are always looking for more help (both in DMing and building) so anyone that is willing and able to help, feel free to let us know! More people = faster results on getting stuff in there for you to play with!
