As the title says, what is the purpose?
Currently characters move at walking speed regardless of heavy encumberance. My own character can be at 1300 / 120 lbs, and still walk at normal speed. It doesn't seem like there's much point to increasing Carry under such circumstances, since you generally want to be moving at walking speed regardless due to having Detect / Stealth active constantly while in dungeons.

Being able to haul ass when Shelob kills 2/3rds of your party and there's no hope of victory?

You'd have to invest all your level ups for that to be viable, when you can carry thousands of pounds of gear while still be able to walk, which would also put your total health in the gutter. I'd actually prefer it changed to make you unable to move at all if you went over your carry capacity.

Perhaps you wear light armor, but in a full suit of heavy armor... having leveled carry at every turn. I still cannot run as long as I have ammunition on my character. My point was more that you could eventually run away in your normal gear... not holding an obscene amount of loot.

I agree that Carry needs to be buffed. I think Carry gives around +10 lbs of what you can Carry, or something similar. The point is, currently even without wearing armor, I encumber myself with ammunition, and the amount of levels I'd have to spend on Carry would be entirely too much to match.

i'm definately against the "Can't Walk" encumbrance. Crafting is pretty difficult financially without having to worry about carrying it to Market. I still trying to get Carry enough to 'carry' my normal gear.

Carry gives 15lbs of weight buff whenever you take it. I agree, the current system is fine, however, I also agree that carrying 1000lbs of gear over your limit is a little silly... So I direct you to this... engines.freeforums.net/thread/285/balancing-economy-dungeoneeringParticularly this point. "This would also help with everybody being constantly encumbered 24/7, due to all loot (weapons and armor) having high weight costs, thus anyone carrying loot is reduced to a crawl. This 'trash loot' would be lighter on average, thus allowing the party to move at a more reasonable speed in times of combat or retreat."

What I can't figure out is the not-encumbered or encumbered line. I can look and see that heavy encumbered comes at X number, but I never know how much weight I can take and still run.

nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/EncumbranceSince we do not have a STR value in the system, these numbers might be hard to decipher, I believe being at about 80% of your total carry weight reduces you to normal walking speed, and being above that number should (in the base game) make you walk at 1/2 speed.

dont think so. I've got a max of 210 and am encumbered even at 150.

Really? Possibly I was a bit generous at 80%, maybe closer to 60-70% then.

Believe 66% is the golden number

Not golden just current settings. It's 2da controlled so I can tweak both light and heavy encumbrance values, and also possibly bring back full some time.

Honestly, it would be nice if it were just tweaked so that encumbrance limit actually matched the displayed number for a change. NWN2 has always been wacky that way, I shouldn't have to constantly recalculate 66% of my total 'carry weight'.
