Hello. Seeing as we're about to launch rather soon, and because we have a rather large amount of custom content and lore, it stands to reason that some players might have some questions regarding the server.
Ask them in this thread and us devs will try to answer as best we can.

How does crafting work? The Prologue doesn't really touch on it at any point, and while building things seems intuitive enough to figure it out on the fly, I still have no idea how to deconstruct items into materials, or buy materials or find materials specifically for crafting.

Materials aren't a big deal, you can buy almost all of them at any place where you'd be allowed to craft. There's also no deconstructing. If it goes in to the intro it'll probably be a quick thing in beggars cross.

So if you're gunna play a crafter, you pretty much need to buy materials, are there any other means to gather reagents/materials? If not is there any plan to include them? It sounds like there's little-no reason for a dedicated crafter to leave the crafting area.

So if you're gunna play a crafter, you pretty much need to buy materials, are there any other means to gather reagents/materials? If not is there any plan to include them? It sounds like there's little-no reason for a dedicated crafter to leave the crafting area. A character who does nothing but craft won't be very successful, the main component for crafting items is money, materials are just a way of saving some cash if you're willing to collect drops and trade with other players. Because of this if your plan is to craft all day you'll need a constant supply of people bringing you money in exchange for items. Not necessarily a bad thing but there are better ways to play it. To be a crafting main all you need to do is reserve five ability points for every crafting skill you want to use. This can be super expensive if you want all six but that isn't more than it would take to max out dual wielding or two handed fighting, so you'll have some to spare. This means that you can branch out and take combat abilities, ideally in one of the areas you excel at crafting. Since crafting is always cheaper than stores you'll be able to train your crafting by making items for yourself to use. Eschew stores entirely to save money, give yourself an edge in dungeons, and keep up your crafting skills. You don't rely entirely on customers but interacting with other players is always beneficial to both parties. At higher levels this becomes even more important because the strongest items require rare materials, properties that use recipes, and sometimes special locations that aren't easy to reach.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense really!
I was concerned crafters would be pushed into having to excessively specialize in it, making their combat ability kinda borked as a result. But if crafters can still manage to pull off a couple specializations, then that's a different animal all together.

rocking.
I see there are no factions listed in the faction section. are those in development or are we (the player base) encouraged to create our own?

They exist and players can join them, but there's no mechanical support for them for now. Factions and quests are the next big thing on the list after launch.

Been bouncing around concepts I want to play and think I'm going to go with a man from the Emerald Isles. Started thinking about religion but dominate religions are only listed for Calidor. What's the religious atmosphere for Plencken?

The three religions are the only three religions worth mentioning everywhere, for all regions and races.

What's the government structure of Calidor? It says in the Races thread that they dissolved the absolute monarchy but it doesn't say what they replaced it with.

It's similar to the standard checks and balances system, except those that are supposed to enforce the law (coppers) do not have a solid monopoly over the use of force. The legal authority is the judges' court, while the executive authority is an incredible mess. Each district in the city has a certain number of representatives relative to its size, importance and some other factors. The general assembly chooses representatives amongst themselves to appoint to the council of ministers, who are tasked with overseeing and making decisions over a certain aspect of the city-state, such as education or city-planning, and the proposal of new laws. The council of ministers then chooses a figure among them to serve as first minister, who is technically the head of the entire city-state. Some of the first minister's tasks include appointing people to the general assembly (!) and having the power to immediately enact, change or veto any law proposed by the council.
