Hello everyone. Here are some tips for the server and playing around on it in general. 1] Use the "pad" as a way to keep information (press J, far right). Useful for keeping track of secrets, cases, information, and things you discover from NPCs, reading, etc. 2] Have a last name for your character. It's not mandatory, but otherwise you might end up with some weird conversations with static content like NPCs. Have a look under the common name suggestions for ideas. 3] Post bugs here and suggestions here. For bugs, this includes anything you don't think is intended as-is, including conversations etc. For suggestions for haks or the like, try to link the files as well. We'll be working hard over the first few weeks to implement and finish areas and improve on static content.

Tip 4: Open your Character Sheet. Go to your Skills menu. Select a skill from the menu. Click on the name of the skill in the description box above the list. The name is actually a tab, and will open a menu for you to read the possible progressions you can put that skill down. You can now figure out if a skill will fit what you want your character to be down the line!

5] Try to find a consistent, like-minded group of other characters you can advance with in a faction. While it's true that everyone should look out for themselves first and foremost and that characters can develop personal vendettas against each other over time, there is safety (and opportunity) in numbers.

6] To fix lanterns and torches that don't make light: drop it and pick it back up again. It should now be all glowy.

8] Extra animations: Click on the eye icon in the bottom left of your screen and then click 'animations' in the pop-up window! (I discovered that last night)

9] Kiting Costs - Moving and shooting with a firearm incurrs a -2 penalty to your attack bonus. You'll hit your targets more often if you remain still.

10) Reload between fights, the stamina cost for reloading your guns/crossbows is negated if you're out of combat.

11) Don't aggro things when your party isn't done healing. Just because you see something red, if it's not directly starting combat you can continue healing.

12 ) Don't neglect flanking bonuses! With ABs so low, that +2 to hit from flanking is a huge bonus.

Things learned over IRC: 13] You can have a maximum of 25 talents/feats. Plan wisely.
edit: I stand corrected: There's no cap on talents. 14] Talking in RP nets you bonus XP. Bonus XP doubles the rate of skill-growth, spending bonus XP until your bonus pool is 0. This helps greatly. Keep the RP up wherever, and you'll always have bonus-XP rolling in. 15] Using gear of a higher rank than your skill level will increase your rate of skill-growth (up to 1% per rank until 10 ranks above, as PE explained below). Likewise, gear below your rank will decrease skill growth, until at 10 ranks below it wont help at all. - Disclaimer: As it was explained to me, using gear vastly above your rank might result in a decrease. Keep your gear matched with or slightly higher than your current rank for best results.

Great below your skill rank decreases gains at -10% per level below. If it's above it increases gain at +1% per level until it caps at 10. Using strong weapons is always beneficial even if the increment is small, but using one vastly above your level is a waste.

17] Check out the IRC. As my previous post reflects, it's a great source of substantiated rumors, or just general hanging out an discussing. . . mostly the server, but sometimes other stuff. It's kinda dead during the morning (US times), but starting around noon, we go bananas*. Hopefully this is redundant given the existence of a thread, but better twice than never. *Holy crap spelling that word is hard The address is #Engines on irc.synirc.net
The web chat can be accessed HERE. To use it: - click the 'HERE' in Fuzz's post.
It opens to a page with two fields:
- Change the top one to your account name, so we know who you are please.
- Change the bottom one to #Engines
- Hit Login.
- Party.

Speaking of IIRC ... I have no idea how to use that thing... someone is going to have to hold my hand and show me how that works one day. I'm too technologically mentally challenged to figure it out.
