The fight started out a bit odd, with three of her broodlings already spawned in the room. (We were the only people there.)
The boss perched herself in the begining of the fight where you see her in this screenshot, and proceeded to throw web-eggs at my character endlessly from that spot, between every round having another layer of web thrown on my PC, a fresh egg, and the babies throwing more webs onto me, I had no hope of moving. Is her behaving like this a bug or intended? If it's a bug, I'll make a separate post for that. But, for the meat of my post I'd like to make a suggestion;
Remove the action cancel from webs, or make it so they can't stack.
The action cancel is once a round, when they make the roll to apply the immobile check, it will cancel whatever action you were performing, effectively wasting whatever's left of your round, disrupting potion spam, etc. It is unbelievably frustrating to deal with, when the spiders spam this it effectively becomes an unending stun, with you only being able to make single attacks every other round, unable to cue up abilities or plan strategically against them. It's immensely frustrating when I'm watching action cues disappear from my bar every second.
The fact that they layer them onto you has two effects; one it makes the action cancel stack, so like in said situation, I basically had to rapidly click on potions as fast as I could to stay alive, (It wasn't about the volume of potions I was consuming, it was about trying to get my character to actually drink the potions) and had no hope of doing anything else, at all in the fight, since anything I tried to do would immediately become canceled by the web effects. This includes even activating parry mode. The second is that it makes you completely unable to move or re-position. Which I'm assuming was intended gameplay, but the way it is, it makes it unreasonably difficult, once you're stuck in a situation like this (And I was in this situation from the start of the fighting) you're done against Shelob. She just sits on the side and can endlessly hurl eggs at you until your party is overwhelmed.
On the point of action cancelling, since AI works the way it does, when you're webbed it makes it hard to focus a target, if your character is webbed then attacked, they'll switch priority to whatever they attacked last. So you have to finish that round attacking that to get the full effect, or re-target a priority target and hope that your action doesn't get cancelled (Assuming you've not had webs stacked onto you.)
All this, combined with the fact that some of the spiders can shoot webs at you every single round.
In general, it just makes the overall spider dungeon more frustrating and tedious then it should be.
I'm sorry if this post comes off as being a little more venomous then I'd like it to be, it's bothered me for a while, though now that I'm playing a melee character, I kinda see how ridiculous the web mechanic really is. Plus, I'm a failwhale tank that can't actually stay alive through a dungeon~
