Experience Progression: [stuff] - Reduced the amount of extra XP you can earn by parting with higher level PCs and running areas well beyond your own level. [stuff] On one hand, I can understand this was implemented to minimize "carrying" lower leveled characters through areas of Death and Murder, but on the other I think it needlessly punishes new or less active players for grouping up with characters they like, but who just happen to be higher leveled. IMHO the higher-leveled PCs influencing mob spawn CRs is enough of a drawback as is. I would suggest toning the penalty down, or removing it from areas where the level ranges overlap? I have spoken to at least one person who returned from a long hiatus only to be very disappointed that us grouping together to punch things out like the good old days would screw him over.

It is very rough, I was gone for 3 weeks due to some personal stuff, came back and went to kill spiders with Lugy and some others and barely even got anything what so ever, and they are pretty much the only ones I can hunt there with to get exp, turned around and died and lost it all. I don't mean to sound like a whiner, but it kind of makes it pointless to play. Just my two cents ^^ Great server though.

Higher-leveled PCs influencing mob spawn CRs is the problem, not a drawback.
The key word in the notes is extra. If a party of level 35 PCs fight a level 40 encounter they get extra XP for it. Previously that extra XP was also available for a level 35 in a party of average level 40. This made it so that being carried was substantially better for XP than any alternatives. The goal with this change was to bring those things in line.

If you post your character skill levels I can check to make sure the spider area is working alright.

Thank you for the clarification! From what was read, I thought that the system imposed an EXP penalty at the lower-leveled people for excessive level disparity, not that it simply removed the bonus EXP if the player's level was too far from the party average. Not that typing it out makes it easier to read, but at least I understand what you mean now.

Could be other stuff like item levels, party vs. spawn levels, etc. I'm interested in hearing specific examples of where progression feels slow, but I'd need to know a fair bit about the party/area/item levels/etc. for it to help. I didn't drastically reduce XP since launch (in fact weapons and armor have gone up a bit) so it's not that.

With exception to bonus xp, I'm gaining nothing. All of my items are within 1-5 levels over my skill level. My combat level is 32 (with 29 One handed, 35 Heavy, and 36 Block.) As described in the log I'm now considered too low for Wyler and thus gained zero experience there and my bonus xp was not used either. However, I've run cultists twice since with different party sizes and have only progressed from bonus xp (roughly 200 used today.) I can confirm because, once my bonus xp hit zero, all progression stopped. Being a tank, my skills, in regard to Heavy armor and block, tend to level a bit faster than the average pc's (a trade off for not actually getting to do much besides guzzling potions ;D,) so I'm %100 certain that I received no progression outside of bonus xp.
I believe this isn't just specific to my pc as Edhart (who is within the same skill level range as my PC) possessed less bonus xp than I did and in turn gained less skill xp when we ran the cultists. Other pc's with a similar amount of bonus xp to myself or more may have not noticed a progression halt, but since my combat xp is generally always going to 3 places it became apparent.
Edit: Also going to mention that most of the people I grouped with were higher level than me.

Looks like it has something to do with rounding, going to take a crack at rewriting some of it today.

Iunno, I burned out hard on the grinding already, meaning I am probably 10 to 20 skill levels behind active players. And since I can't solo... does that just mean I am exiled to a 20 skill levels lower forever?
