My 2.7lb handgun magazine takes 12 bullets. 50 bullets weigh 15 pounds.
I load 12 bullets. My handgun magazine then weighs 18lbs.
This doesn't add up?
Also the magazine weight seems a little excessive? .5lbs empty and 2.5lbs loaded seems closer?

Reference: books.google.com/books?id=K7kxs__WNU8C&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false(US Army M16A2 is 8.79lb 30-round magazine included). They weigh in 7 mags at about 20 pounds. Given the game uses 50 bullets at 15 pounds for the Rifle, we'll go with the above at about 4.2 pounds per 50 round box, we have bullets that are almost three times the weight of the M16A2's bullets. Also they mention in there that when a soldier is carry more weight their marksmanship decreases, in addition higher heart rates also effect aim ability. So perhaps a minus to that skill when you get yourself encumbered would be cool as it seems to be such a trend these days and this could be a nice way to balance players taking on 400lbs over their carry limit to mass sell stuff later.

Modem bullets are a combination of Steel, Tin, Nickel, and Lead. Old bullets from the 1800s weren't as fancy, and were also much larger in caliber because they were made by hand or crude machines. So let's just chalk it up to that, because otherwise it'd be easy to carry 500 rounds around at all times and go Rambo constantly.

Um... the bug I'm reporting is that the math isn't adding up.
I'm loading 12 rounds out of 50 into a magazine. And the magazine increases in weight by more than the weight of the 50 total rounds, while only have 12 in it. I'd expect the weight to go up by about 3lbs given the IG weights of the 50 round stack. Not by 15.5lbs?

So basically I'm unencumbered carrying my bullets. Then when I load them into a magazine and start shooting them, I become more encumbered. It doesn't really add-up logic wise?

Oh, I can see how the math is wrong, yeah. I was mainly addressing the comparison to modern firearms. Modern guns have 200 years of engineering behind them, our setting clearly does not. Guns should be expected to be cruder and heftier in general. But yeah, the mass expansion on loading definitely needs some fixing.

FYI, I've run into the same issue with the carbine magazines. Last night I was carrying two in my inventory, unencumbered. As soon as I loaded them for combat and started shooting, I became encumbered. Encumbered by the moral weight of committing murder, I suppose.

Personally, I had hoped the magazines themselves, when loaded, would be weightless and considered part of the gun. Then you just have to worry about the weight of the bullets, which is much easier to fine tune on the fly.
I'm sure PE is looking into it, keep an eye out!

I'd like to point out another issue with the Carbine Magazines I have noticed. Much like the pistol magazine, their weight increases once they are loaded. But after you load the magazine into the carbine, the weight of the magazine does not decrease even after all 20 bullets have been fired. You still need to load the magazine again before you can use your carbine.

There's an item property on magazines that tells you how many bullets they have. If you notice something related to this problem could you examine the item and let me know what it's showing there?

If I remember right, when loaded the handgun magazines actually say "Titanium".

The carbine magazines also often say "Titanium" for a weight when loaded.
Also, sometimes when loading a completely empty carbine magazine with 20 bullets (as the notification in the chat window says), upon inspecting the magazine it will say it has 18 bullets. I haven't been able to count my shots to see if its really 18, 20, or something else. No idea if handguns have the same issue.
