I have only recently started picking locks again with the new system, and I wanted to run some numbers by people to see if others have a similar experience.
I currently have Lockpicking 15530/17700 at level 14. Here are some locks I've recently picked and the total xp I got for them.
Level 13 lock - 4 xp Level 22 lock - 16 xp Level 20 lock - 16 xp Level 30 lock - 21 xp
Unless I'm misremembering, the old system granted xp on every attempt, while this one only seems to grant xp the first time a tumbler is successfully completed. In either case, given the rarity of locks and the number of people competing to get xp from them, it seems far too slow.

Do you have any lockpicking abilities?

Nope! Do they affect the XP gain rate?

Not directly, but it should be very slow going trying to grind out the last few levels up to 20 on only tier 1 locks. I'm more concerned about the fact that you were actually able to open the 20-30 ones with no abilities.

I mean I basically just brute forced them. I got one, maybe two clues per lock, and just figured out the patterns. Were those tier 1 locks? Some of them had two/three tumblers.

Locked that are too difficult are supposed to lock up and get jammed if you brute force them without the right abilities. It should say the tier on the lock GUI.
